Otherwise Occupied

School starts the week before Labour Day here in Quebec. I used to think that was weird, but I'm beginning to see the advantages, like how it enables me to take steps towards my aforementioned hibernation plan a little bit earlier than if I lived elsewhere in the country. Today: escort big kid to first day of grade one. Next week: convince remaining child of the wonders of daycare. The week after that, who knows?

I think the early start is a good thing, too. My grandson went back to school in Maryland yesterday. That way, they have a holiday right away with Labour Day and don't have that long weekend to either dread the return or get overwrought with excitement.

That's interesting. Never thought of it that way before. I always cherished the last-blast long weekend. We always went away, and it was always the most fun. It still symbolises the official end of the summer for me. (And I'm told that yes, you can indeed wear white after labour day.)

The labeling! Yes! You're a great mom making all those pretty labels. I scramble to scribble AM, RM, BM over and over again with a black sharpie.

Were there tears, Esme? Mom?

Hey, welcome back! I would be scribbling with a sharpie if I had three kids in school. We'll see how the labelling goes as the years progress.

No tears. Just a low-grade weepy feeling (me!).
